For speed I'll use the same format Hsing created for the previous competiton. Hope the theme gets you guys thinking - the results should be interesting. The Theme: Fire & Ice The Rules: - Photographs must be taken by you - no nicking them off the Web - Photos must be taken specifically for the contest - get out there and get snapping! - One picture per person. - No excessive digital manipulation (i.e. adding a more dramatic sky from another photo to your picture, or creating negative images etc.). Cropping, and adjusting levels, contrast, saturation etc. is ok though. - Equipment: Anything goes as long as the results can be seen from here. - Voting takes place when the contest closes. - The winner of the contest gets to choose the next subject. - the entire community is allowed to vote for one picture in the voting thread And for information and review, here are the past competition and their themes: I "Beginning": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/1050-photo-competition-thread.html II "Connection": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/1116-photo-competition-ii-november-2006-a.html III "Faith": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/1255-photo-competition-iii-january-2007-a.html IV "Colour": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/1343-photo-competition-iv-feb-2007-a.html V "Time": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/1394-photo-competition-v-march-2007-a.html VI "Love": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/1454-photo-competition-vi.html VII "Landscape": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/1511-photo-competition-vii.html VIII "Moment": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/1580-photo-competition-viii.html IX "Roots": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/1690-photo-competition-ix.html X "Surfaces": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/1764-photo-competition-x.html XI "Joy": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/1813-photo-competition-xi.html XII "Magic": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/1907-photo-competition-xii.html XIII Shadow and Light": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/1973-photo-competition-xiii.html XIV "Decay": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/2012-photo-competition-xiv.html XV "Water": http://www.terrypratchett.uk/discworld/boardania/2066-photo-competition-xv-water.html Starting Sunday 30th November Last entries by Sunday 28th December
Geez, Joc, what's with scrapping the Roman noomerals? I'm all cafuffled... Although maybe they bring back painful memories of doing calculus back in your school years. Must have been tough growing up back in BC
That's ageist, that is! I was just trying to save space. Two characters instead of three But if you insist, and this is for Kat's benefit... XVI.
Hehe, sorry Joc, that unfortunate reflex comes from 30 years of my Dad starting all his stories with "when I was in the Roman army..." Thanks for the noomerals, I feel much better now!
I made a snowman with an ice candle head. This is the picture of the back of the snowmans head. The picture I took of the whole snowman didn't look right.
In the absence of a decent snowfall, I've had to make my own ice. This is from a rubber mould of a sun-face, filled with water and left in the freezer overnight. Simple backlighting from a candle and photographed on a time exposure it didn't look too bad when I took the shot.
Oh, this is still open! *sneaks in* The glitter is really ice, on the pylon in front of our door. And the glass bowl is reflecting a few sparks from the fireworks.
I tried to make one of these for my daughter all winter... but the snow is always gone after one night... :-(
Is an ice-candle head like a carved out pumpkin head? (don't want to sound like an idiot, but the last time we got enough snow to make an actual decent sized snowman, was something like twelve years ago...and that lasted about a day...It's a pity you can't make things with rain...although...mudman? I did make a slushpuppie once. It was a cocker spaniel. Cute, but it only lasted about an hour.)
I made the ice candle by making allot of snowballs and making a mini igloo. The hard part was adding the eyes which were plastic blue balls. (insert joke here....)
Sorry for my infrequent presence over the past few weeks folks. I have been having a few PC problems which prevented me being online regularly. Entries now Closed Voting thread to follow.
