   I just found out that David Gemmell died on 28th July.
   
   He was one of my favourite authors. I loved the depth of character he gave his creations and was always going back and rereading his books. He will be greatly missed.

   I was talking about this with my local writing circle at the time, he was a very good author who wrote some very realistic mediueval-type battle scenes. I think he studied historical battles a lot before he started writing fantasy novels?

   Although I hate to say that some later novels felt a little formulaic, I am devastated that he is gone.
