    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
a bastardization of my name and a nickname I've had for years, Jinx and Ted.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
    Male

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
37 and a graphic geographic is unseemly, its indoors in Dorr, Michigan

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
Chances are getting better everyday. Current CGI makes it plausible, Hollywood dumbing it down makes it implausible.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
Picked up Reaper Man in a bookstore hmmmm.... too damn many years ago to recall now.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?
Today? Well it would have to be GO TIGERS.

Turned on from the first Colour of Magic, never been turned off since.

My quote of the day Wu Fen zhong "just five minutes more"

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

Soul Music is among my favourite pratchett books so when I had to come up with a Pratchett related name... it almost instantly came to mind. But not before I spent an hour trying to figure out a way of making a witty reference to a Kirsty Macoll song and an elvish looking guy selling fried fish but unfortunately due to a somewhat limited intellect coupled with years of drink and substance abuse I failed and so instead chose to directly plagurise another character from Soul Music. That and I allways thought of myself as a bit of a rebel but more for style reasons than any anarchic feelings.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
Ive been warned not to answer questions like this on the internet! Ive heard all about people like you!

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
Well according to the map thingy on your website Im from Liverpool.... this isnt strictly true but its close enough and I certainly prefer it to being called a Manc. Mental age or chronological? My mental age is probably about a quarter of my chronological age.

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
No. But Ill wattch it anyway. They got it right with Lord of the Rings but even the thought of the travesty they called Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy sends me into rabid convulsions. But then they also got it right with Harry Potter.
I guess it will boil down to who makes the film, wether its someone who loves Pratchetts work or someone who recognises its financial potential.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
A Couple of friends raved about the Colour of Magic but I couldnt be bothered reading it. I think it was about the time he wrote Eric that I finally gave in to my friends insistence and started reading Pratchett

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?
This isnt from today but its the most relevant for these boards.

"This is not my book - Terry Pratchett"

the same friend who eventually badgered me into reading Pratchett used to work in Leeds and Live in Huddersfield and many years ago he jumped on his train home one evening and sat down opposite a guy in a big hat......
As it happned my friend had been reading Mort right up to the day before when he had finished it and so he was reading a Moorcok book instead, So Pratchett signed the Moorcock book for him with the above quote.

Hello, I'm new, so I thought I'd better introduce myself.
    1) The motivational impetus for my choice of screenname was, um, it's my name. Sorry, I left my imagination at the maternity unit. They gave me a baby instead. And anyway, I'd never remember pretend names.

    2) I'm female.

    3) I'm in my (very) early thirties, and I live in Oxfordshire.

    4) I'm really hoping that Hogfather is done well enough to translate to the screen. While reading it I kept laughing out loud on a train (I was travelling alone.) I have a certain amount of faith.

    5) My mum introduced me to Terry Pratchett books.

    6) "If it hadn't been for flash company, I'd never have been so poor."

  17. Hobbes

    Hobbes New Member

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

On nearly all fora my screenname is 'heidewolf', but not this one as you can see. This is beacuse when i registerd i accidentily gave up a wrong email adres. When i registerd for a second time, the name 'heidewolf'. Was already taken. Then i thought since this is a discworlforum and pratchett is british i might just as well pay tribute to my favourite brittish philosipher : Hobbes.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)

    Male

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

A student. In dutch it would be 'levensbeschouwing', what it is in english in dont know, there is no proper translation. It would be something like 'vision of life'. It's go to do with how you look at life and what kind of awnsers you give to lifes questions.

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

If you hade rowan atkinson and john cleese in it, it wouldnt suck that much.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

I bought a discworld book by the look of the cover, it was 'going postal'.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

    You think I'm a lemon, then you're a fruit!

    You asked and I answered:-

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
It’s a long story that may never be repeated as I think I’m the only one left who remembers. I use it in memory of its origin.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
    Yes

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
I’feel like a Kevin from the wild desolate lands north of Watford in the UK

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
    yes - don't you

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
I was commissioned to paint some Clarecraft pewter figures and given a book to read for inspiration.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?
    What’s a “nice day”

    1) Er. Well. It's from one of my favorite Discworld books, and it's easy to recognize/remember for anybody who has read Color of Magic. Yay for Ninereeds the under-represented dragon!

    2) Female

    3) Age: Older than 13, younger than 30.
Location: What is round on both ends and high in the middle?

    4) I think that a Discworld movie could never be pulled off properly, but an approximation could probably be rendered for some of the more "physical" books such as Reaper Man.

    5) Hmm. I think a family member brought one home, and then... you probably know the rest. I want the library to expand their meager Discworld collection.

    6) Today's quote is:

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
An ex-girlfriend had a statuette of Death and Binky, i asked her what it was, she gave me Reaper Man as way of a reply. From that day forth i was hooked. Cyril the dyslexic cockerel rocks.

  45. Joculator

    Joculator The 'Old' Fool

Just to be lazy and because I also noticed this topic is going to stick at the top of the board, here are the answers you require.

1 - Joculator is the name I've had for years and years due to my sense of humour and besides, it has a better ring to it than jokesmith.

2 - Male. At least I was, last time I checked.

3 - 57 and a tribute to the embalmer's skills. I live in Durham in the glorious northeast of England.

4 - The only way a movie could ever be made of a Discworld tale would be if the producer sat down and read the book fully and more importantly, tried to understand what Terry is trying to say. Too many people try to include their own style of humour and generally fail miserably.

5 - I overheard a conversation which began... Hey I've just read a strange book by someone called Pratchett. It's about people who live in your carpet.... Need I say more? It's taken some time but now I have the complete set. At least until the next one is published

6 - Don't blame the dog - You trod in it!

If you are curious enough to want to know any more, I suggest you visit my website. Be warned Morris Men can be stranger than fiction.

Ok, so I'm so incredibly bored that I've decided to copy and paste this bit into the correct thread as well, just so's everything is neat.

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

It's from a woodcut depicting a witch confessing to Witchfinder General Matthew Hopkins, she lists her familiar spirits one of which is called Jarmara. A fat, legless spaniel in fact, I like the name.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)

    Ummmm, let me check....
    Yeah, definitely female

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

30 years old, Scottish and living in Yorkshire

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

Absolutely, so long as Terry has editorial control and you employ that rifle to keep Terry Gilliam away from it.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

Since I was 10. I stole my Dad's copy of The Light Fantastic and never gave it back.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

"There is something Pagan in me that I cannot shake off. In short, I deny nothing, but doubt everything."

What's that in german? Speaking of german, I found this picture which is not in the least politically correct but I thought it was hilarious. If you don't get it you watched too little MTV in the early 1990's.

MC Hammer was an american rapper who had a big hit with the song U Can't Touch This, released in January 1990. I think you would recognize him if you saw him, he wore great big golden balloon trousers.

After each chorus in the song, before Hammer would go back to rapping another verse, there was a short break in the music and Hammer exclaimed "Stop! Hammertime!"

"Halt! Hammerzeit!" would be the doggish german translation of this. Its funny because the falling nazi looks like he's about to do some insane breakdance moves.
