I know - the "late" referred only to this very thread. Not to the original one. :) Just a small fit of nostalgia here...

    Hi everyone !
    1. Chosen screename - Combination of myself and partners names.. Sad but true.

    2.Gloriously female.

3.Sunny Bournemouth :) I'm 40 ( Seemingly my life is just about to begin, what happened to the last forty years then...)

    4. Sure a movie could be done, but I prefer to use my imagination.

    5. Read all the books from one of my other favourite authors (Stephen King), knew TP's books were popular, thought millions of people couldn't be wrong, so I thought I'd give them a go! ~pause for breath~ aahhh ! that's better.

    6. "Ego a go go, and boy does mine !"

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

It's a nicname, and far more printable than some others I've been given.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)

    Male, and usually confused

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

I'm old enough to know better, and I live in the north east of England.

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

Well actually I'm here because I saw a news story about David Jason signing up for a Hogfather adaptation with Sky One and wanted to know more.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

I was in a book club that had a 2 for 1 offer going. I was looking at Arthur C Clarke's 2010 and Mort was on the same page. The description appealed to my sense of humour so I chose it as the freebie. Since then it's been an addiction that I fear may never be cured.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - get it out with Optrex
    (Thank you Spike Milligan)

Hi mikeedee, welcome to the Boards.
Could you please resize your avatar? It messes up the site layout. Thanks a lot.

    Thank you.

Avatar resized. Not sure why but my signature doesn't show despite me optioning for always visible in the set up

    Whoops! There it is.

It seems you solved that sig problem too, because I can see it. :)

If you go to Your Account > Your Info, theres yes/no box, "always attach my signature". tick yes. Also, make sure you've got "Attach Signature" ticked when you make a post. It's just under the text box.

    Welcome to the board. :)

Let's say we've had a slow, but steady flow of newbits since this site was "founded". Which is by far preferable to being overrun by morons. :)

Give the Code of Conduct a try, and join the discussion, if you feel you have anything to add. And enjoy yourselves. :)

Thanks for the welcome. Nice to be aware of fellow Pratchettites.

Is that the correct term? Have I just made it up? Maybe I should get the copywrite.

  22. Maljonic

    Maljonic Administrator Staff Member

    Hi new people, and welcome.

P.S. There's no such thing as copywrite by the way, it's copyright. There is such a thing as copywriting, but that's an entirely different kettle of frogs. :)

  23. Hermia

    Hermia New Member

I guess then, Mikeedee could arguably have the copyright on "copywrite"?

I wouldn't put it that strongly - one of the things that we keep in mind is that PTerry has a world-wide audience - a lot of our members are not native English speakers, so we ask people not to use English-based leet-speak (or any other language version - though it does seem to be a peculiarly English perversion of communications) - we also like to keep things grammatical because grammar aids clarity - otherwise what is the point of language? - we do keep in mind that English is not always the first language of some of our members, and also that some of our members are dyslexic (although my brother, who is a teacher, insists that dyslexia is a "fake disease" - Rinso - do you want his address - he lives in Cornwall?) - this whole sentence seems to have got out of control - but - no Mikeedee - we are not usually pedantic, but we do sometimes succumb to the urge to add in a little education - even Buzzfloyd doesn't get toopushy about it! :)

  26. mikeedee

    mikeedee New Member

    Oh, er, okay.
So, does all that mean that I was right then? :D

Actually it was just laziness - I wasn't sure about which spelling to use and couldn't be bothered to spellcheck.

And what's with the PTerry? Something I'm missing?

  27. Pixel

    Pixel New Member

PTerry is a name for Mr Pratchett that derives from "Pyramids" - I don't think this counts as a spoiler - to give a Djellibabyan/mock-Egyptian accent, "P" was added onto any name beginning witn "T" - in the same way that TP is sometimes referred to as "the Marthter" - derived from the various books in which the Igors appear - with a distinctive vocal habit.

  28. mikeedee

    mikeedee New Member

    Right I get it now.

No worries with spoilers - I've got all the Discworld first editions from Mort onwards.

 'Newbies' resembles - 'pubies' a bit too much for my liking..

"I Sarbar, will not take the name 'newbie' in vain".

What exactly does 'bie' mean ?

thats the best I could come up with right now. I'm not at my most creative in the afternoons.

Hello and welcome (yeah, I couldn't just copy a swede, that's against my religion, just like turnips.)

(**does a Jedi hand wave thingy** You did not see me edit this to correct a stupid mistake :D )

I would prefer to be a Swede, if it's not too much effort.

  45. Wow, thanks all for the warm welcomes!! :) *I got a warm, fuzzy feeling inside*

Just kinda catching up on all the threads and what not. Sheesh.
I was a lurker when the HC place went bad. Oh so bad. Its sad that its still not much better. I actually ended up moving over to the stamps forum, but one or two of the people from the HC forum who moved there have done ticked me off, so now I am here. I wish I had found you all sooner. :)
I'll try not to lurk too much here, I promise. Chalk it up to being shy.
Oh, and as a newbie I did read the faq's and code of conduct already. I am firm believer in reading instructions before you jump right in. :D

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

I like the name Windle Poons from (Reaperman or Soul Music?)

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)

    Male.

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

    30's from Liverpool UK.

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

Would be bound to suck but surely someone could do an animated version that is better than the two I have seen.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

I was about 18 and a friend gave me The Colour of Magic, I had read lots of fantasy and it was just the right time.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

People who didn't need people needed people around to know that they were the kind of people who didn't need people.
